SOUTHPORT Photographic Society has awarded the winners of its annual exhibition

The society, set up in 1890, is currently holding its 61st exhibition at the Atkinson Art Gallery, with a stunning series of images on view..

It is split into three sections; the open competition, Southport members only section, and young photographers.

The open section attracts entries from all over the country and around 3,000 images (digital, print and slides) were submitted to the club.

Judging the young photographers competition again this year was John Daly, the group chief photographer for Trinity Mirror’s Merseyside Weekly titles.

The junior section is run in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Southport and 101 youngsters entered.

Last Saturday the Mayor and Mayoress of Southport, Cllr Richard Hands and Mrs Katy Hibbert, presented all the winners with their awards at the gallery on Lord Street.

l The Southport Photographic Society exhibition runs until Sunday, March 30, on the second floor at Atkinson Art Gallery.

Opening hours are 10am to 5pm Tuesday to Thursday and Saturday, Friday noon to 5pm and Sunday 2pm to 5pm.

Entrance is free.
