Title triumph for Crosby High as girls clinch footballing glory

Feb 9 2012

by Joe Thomas, Crosby Herald

JUNIOR footballers from Crosby are celebrating after producing a series of top performances to win a county title.

The girls team from Crosby High Specialist Humanities College won the Merseyside Special Schools Five-A-Side Football Tournament played at Greenbank Sports Academy, Aigburth.

The team representing the De Villiers Avenue School was Audra Bennet, Megan Blain, Carina Vermiglio, Bethany Henderson, Lisa-Marie Clark and Elizabeth Coughlin.

Coached by Kelsey Donlevy, the girls proved a formidable side as they triumphed over their title rivals in a memorable cup run. The win was a sweet moment for the girls – who lost in the final last year.

“They were runners-up last year and beat several teams across the Merseyside area, PE coordinator Bob Johnston said.

“They beat Altbridge School in the final 3-2 and Bethany Henderson scored a hat-trick.”
