Latest from the Crosby and District League

Nov 26 2009

by Our Correspondent, Crosby Herald

DESPITE the bad weather, most games were completed in the Crosby and District Sunday Football League last weekend.

However, Bootle’s tie against Britannia and Frank Armitt’s tie against the Paddock were postponed and will be played this Sunday.

Crosby side Salisbury Athletic lost 1-4 to Seymour in the LCFA Premier Cup.

In the LCFA Junior Cup the Vic won 4-1 at Alt Valley with goals from Mike Smith, Ian Gould, Mark Kirby and Liam O’Donovan.

One game in the Don Williams Premier Division saw Saltbox win 6-0 at Barr Aintree with Gary Roberts scoring a hat-trick.

In the Canon Francis Cup, there was a shock after Oak Tree Jocks beat table-toppers Lion Athletic 3-2 thanks to goals from Paul Caffrey, John Murphy and Keith Moore with James McShane and Kevin McDonald scoring for Lion.

Belmont and the Slaughterhouse drew 4-4 after 90 minutes with the referee abandoning the game due to an unsafe ground before extra-time.

In the League Challenge Cup, Beno’s progressed to the semi-finals after a close 3-2 win over Tanners United with Lee Hayes scoring two and Mike McGurk the third after Steve Armes and Carl Porter had scored for Tanners.

Improving Alexandra recorded an emphatic 5-0 win over Northend Athletic to also reach the semi-finals with Anthony Rawlinson scoring two and one each for Sean Ryan, Mike Hardie and Marc Roberts.
