FINAL preparations are underway for the Crosby beach nativity plays 'starring' Antony Gormley's 'Iron Men.' The final cast member signed up two weeks ago - newborn baby George Masterson who will play Jesus. Proud mum Liz gave birth to George, weighing 7lb 5oz, at the family home in Coronation Drive, Crosby, on December 1. George is the third boy for Liz and husband Paul, who ironically is a carpenter by trade. The baby will play the role of Jesus alongside his parents as Mary and Joseph. Liz, who is also mother to Daniel, five, and James, three, said: "It's nice for the family to be involved. Luckily George has arrived in time to play his part and I'm sure he will be proud when he gets older and finds out he was a star at less than three weeks old." The four shows over two days will also feature animals including a real camel named Callum. Some of Antony Gormley's iron statues will be dressed up as characters including the Angel Gabriel. There will also be a choir of angels composed mainly of local schoolchildren. The event has been organised by people from churches in the Crosby area, led by Annie Spiers, wife of Pete Spiers, vicar of St Luke's, Crosby. She said: "Rehearsals went smoothly and it was a beautiful afternoon with a wonderful sunset. "Organisations such as the British Red Cross and Merseyside Fire and Rescue, are supporting us. We would like to thank them, and all other support staff, for their time, expertise and equipment." The scheme has been part financed by a £1,000 donation from Crosby Area Committee and church donations. Programmes and refreshments will be on sale. * Four free shows near the coast-guard station at Hall Road, Blundellsands, are planned for Friday and Saturday, (December 16 and 17) at 4pm and 6pm. Visitors are advised that nearby parking places may be limited. Warm clothing and footwear are essential. For more information visit www.ciap.3dup.net |
