Golden jubilee concert raises £12,000 for Jospice

MORE than 1,500 music lovers enjoyed an evening to remember as Jospice celebrated its Golden Jubilee at the Philharmonic Hall in spectacular style.

Twenty classical greats came together under one roof last week for the glittering Liverpool show, which raised in excess of £20,000 for the hospice.

A rousing evening of music was enjoyed by all as the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir, under the baton of Ian Tracey, kicked off proceedings.

Organised by Jospice’s director of fundraising, Pat Murphy, and soprano and former volunteer Rosa Mannion, to celebrate the Thornton charity’s 50th birthday, children’s author Frank Cottrell Boyce compered the evening and soloists Kathryn Rudge, Ashley Holland, Paul Charles Clarke and Danielle Thomas wowed the crowds with their vocal talents.

Pat Murphy said: “It was an evening to remember for the start of our golden jubilee year. Everything went smoothly and it was a great privilege to be involved with the Philharmonic and its orchestra and choir.

“It was a fabulous evening of music and entertainment and I would like to thank all those who supported the event. A big thank-you must go out to all our soloists, Ian Tracey and Rosa Mannion.

“Jospice will have raised in excess of £20,000 from the concert, which will go towards the work of Jospice in helping to continue to care for local terminally ill people from the area, as well as running projects abroad.

“It was a great way to start our special year and we’ve got lots more planned for the remainder of 2012. Watch this space!”

The next Jospice fundraiser will be the Fun Run on April 1. For more information, or to register, call 0151 932 6035.
