THE fight for the new Sefton Central constituency is hotting up with former BBC Radio Merseyside broadcaster Richard Clein now in the running.
Richard, 36, will battle to win the seat for the Liberal Democrats in the next general election.
He is one of the party’s top campaigners, who has masterminded record-breaking local and parliamentary gains for the party.
Currently serving on the party’s ruling body, the Federal Executive, he believes the Liberal Democrats can win the new Sefton Central seat.
He said: “When the people of Sefton last went to the polls earlier this year, the result proved that this is a straight fight between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives.
“Labour has no councillors in the new constituency and can no longer take the people of Sefton Central for granted.”
For the past few weeks he has been out working with John Gibson, the candidate in the Manor Ward by-election, held last week.
He has also outlined his campaign strategy including better access to NHS dentists and the fight to build a new prison in Maghull.
Richard said: “There is no enthusiasm on the doorstep for either the Conservatives or Labour. People feel let down and are prepared to give the Liberal Democrats a chance.
“My campaign is about protecting our health service and ensuring everyone has access to an NHS dentist and that there is free care for our elderly.
“I am campaigning against plans for a new prison in Maghull and fighting for the promised transfer of government jobs from Whitehall to our area.
“I have a proven record and look forward to working with and speaking up for the people of Sefton Central.”
