MUSIC lovers of all ages have comes together to form a choir in memory of much-loved Blundellsands vicar Rev Colette Thornborough.

Rev Colette, vicar of St Nicholas Church, passed away in December last year following a brave three-year battle with cancer.

Remembered as a music lover, those who knew Colette were keen to honour her in a personal way.

Friend and choir member Michael Foy said: “Colette was a music lover and was very active in initiatives that brought the community together. It was felt that it would be appropriate, and a fitting tribute to her, to form a choir for the local community.

“The response so far has been staggering. There are around 45 singers already and in only three rehearsals they are already sounding fantastic.

“The atmosphere at rehearsals is very supportive and positive and there is a real sense of community.

“So far it has been brilliant. The project has far surpassed my expectations and everyone seems to be enjoying it.”

Michael, a teacher at Sacred Heart High School, added: “The choir is a true community choir in the sense that there is no audition and no previous experience is necessary.

“However, unlike many community choirs we have set our sights incredibly high. Instead of gospel songs and arrangements of popular music, we aim to perform Vivaldi’s Gloria and Magnificat alongside some chamber pieces and solo performances.”

The choir’s first objective is

to stage a summer gala concert in Colette’s memory, raising money for some of her favourite charities.

“We are working towards what will hopefully be a fantastic concert which raises a fortune for charity,” Michael said.

“We are also paying tribute to Colette and creating a real sense of community.

“It doesn’t get any better than this.”

The choir is open to those over the age of 14 and presently all age groups are represented. New members are welcome, particularly tenors and basses. Rehearsals take place at St Nicholas’ Church Hall, Harlech Road every Wednesday from 7.30- 9pm.
