Thai life for Netherton’s Edward

Aug 21 2008

by James Maloney, Bootle Times

A DREAM trip into the ferocious world of Thai boxing more than lived up to expectations for a Netherton lad.

Craig Edward travelled to the Far East in pursuit of his ultimate goal of fighting for a title in the lions den of Thai boxing. His wish was granted on two occasions as he won and then successfully defended a championship belt. Initially Craig, who trains out of the Panthainarasingh Camp, had flown over to the Rawai Muay Thai camp in Phucket, where his trainer was set to put him through a punishing regime.

Craig, who is sponsored by North Park Carpets, said : “It was a fantastic experience and all my hard work over the years paid off. I'm going back to Thailand next year for a month, then in 2010 for six months. I can't wait'.”

Craig’s Netherton coach, Kru Mark Cannon, said: “He is an excellent fighter with a very nice style and is a credit to the Panthainarasingh Camp. We are hoping to get him some big fights in the next 12 months and are looking for sponsors to get him back to Thailand as quick as possible.”
