DETERMINED fundraisers braved torrential rain to complete a lengthy trek for charity.

Parents and teachers from Newfield School set off from Stanley Road in Bootle to walk the length of Sefton in memory of former governor Ray Hurst.

Collecting money along the way, the team of hardy volunteers was raising money for Sefton Children’s Trust and the Thornton school’s own charity, Friends Unite Newfield.

The group expected the walk to take at least nine hours after their 8am start on Friday, December 30.

But moving swiftly they finished ahead of schedule – reaching Chapel Street, Southport, by 4.30pm.

Southport MP John Pugh, pictured with other fundraisers joined the soaked walkers for the final leg from Formby.
