Police uncover cannabis farm

Sep 20 2007

by Lyndsay Young, Bootle Times

TWO men have been arrested after police uncovered drugs farms in Bootle in a seizure of more than £200,000 worth of cannabis plants.

A raid in Bootle on Tuesday as well as two last Friday in Bootle and Waterloo, uncovered more than 900 cannabis plants.

Police found a stun gun and more than 230 plants as cultivating equipment at a house in Clare Road on Tuesday.

A 40-year-old man from Bootle has been bailed pending further enquiries.

It follows raids on Friday, during which around 315 plants were uncovered at a drugs farm in Wadham Road.

A 16-year-old boy is helping police with enquiries in relation to the incident.

One the same day officers attended a house in Waterloo Road and uncovered a further 400 plants.

An enquiry has been launched by police to trace those involved in growing the plants at the Waterloo property.

The premises were not occupied at the time but forensic examinations are being carried out on items from the property.

At houses raided on Friday, police said cannabis plants were being produced using a hydroponics system, fans and heat lamps.

Officers from the area’s dedicated drugs team carried out the warrants at the addresses.

Merseyside Police Inspector Neil Turner said: “This seizure is part of Merseyside Police's total war on crime.

“Community intelligence has been the catalyst behind this seizure and I would urge anyone who has information about drug supply to come forward. As you can see we will treat it seriously.”

Anyone with information in relation to drugs can contact the neighbourhood police or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
