NHS “Bug busting” in local schools

Feb 4 2010

by Katarzna Wagner, Bootle Times

BOOTLE schools were visited by NHS nurses on a “Bug Busting” mission.

Over 100 parents attended a series of drop-in sessions, at which they were given a special bug busting comb and leaflets offering advice on fighting head lice.

The nurses held the meetings to show how head lice can easily be kept at bay, by using the bug busting comb on a child’s wet hair after shampooing.

Julie Barr, a school nurse who visited Thomas Gray primary school, said: “Most children get head lice at some stage and can keep getting them over and over again. So it is important that parents know how to look out for and the best ways to stop them in their tracks.”

The facilities visited so far include Christchurch, Springwell, All Saints, Thomas Gray, Linacre, and Bedford primary schools.

Parents who did not attend the sessions can request the anti-lice combs from school nurses or obtained these for free through the Care at the Chemist Scheme at pharmacies.
