Dog walkers are quizzed

Feb 4 2010

by Kate Allen, Bootle Times

BOOTLE’S Bag it, Tie it, Bin it campaign has seen more than 300 dog walkers quizzed by wardens.

In a bid to clean the streets of Linacre and Derby of dog mess, wardens targeted 12 fouling hot spots over a period of five weeks in 'Operation Collar' to encourage people to clean up after their pets.

In total, 329 dog owners were stopped and asked to show that they were carrying dog mess bags. 248 were already carrying bags, leaving the remaining 81 who were not, with a warning that they could face a £75 fine.

No fouling signs and floor stencils were also used during the campaign.

Principal Environmental Health Officer, Rob Monks, said: “Operation Collar is designed to educate pet owners and target specific areas where there may be a particular problem with dog fouling.

“The message is clear, if you own a dog, you must clean up after it and dispose of the mess in any bin.”
