AMAZING youngsters have been honoured for their inspiring achievements at a glittering awards ceremony.

The fifth Sefton Shining Stars awards took place at The Park Hotel recognising the amazing feats of six to 16-year-olds from across Sefton.

Organised by Sefton CVS, guests were treated to an evening of entertainment and a buffet.

Netherton Park Dance Group and Bethany Lythgoe were on hand to wow the crowds with their dancing skills and the Deyes High Gospel Choir ended the evening with some amazing singing.

Guests were then surprised by a visit from Liverpool FC star Jamie Carragher.

More than 30 awards in 11 different categories were handed out to deserving youngsters on the night. Winner of the top award, Brightest Star, was six-year-old Shannon Trotter.

Shannon was hailed for her bravery and courage after undergoing brain surgery in Oklahoma this summer. Despite invasive treatment she never missed a day of school.

Youngsters from Netherton Park Community Centre took away the majority of the awards of the night.

It was a clean sweep in the Achieving and Caring category, with third place going to Helena Huntington, second place to Ellie Hazlett and the top prize handed to John Goulson.

Beth Hickey scooped first prize in the Volunteering category and Charlotte Savin won third prize in the Achiever of the Year award.

In the Changing Attitudes category Joseph Flynn claimed third place and Chantelle O’Brien claimed first place.

Awarded second place in the Personality category were twin Billy and Tiger Smith and Robyn Goulson and Hayley Walker won awards for participation.

Flynn Freeston picked up third place in the Young Role Model category.

Organiser Sarah Hurn said: “Many of the award winners are people who have a lot of barriers in their lives, but they have worked hard to do amazing things for their families, friends and communities - they are both an inspiration to us all and a reminder of the many positive things that Sefton’s children and young people contribute to the borough.”
