AN AIRPORT worker from Bootle has been hailed a community champion for his outstanding charitable efforts.
Stephen Fawcett, from Old Roan, is a terminal services manager for British Airways at Manchester Airport.
Football legend Gary Lineker presented Stephen with a pair of Olympic tickets in recognition of his contribution to charities and community projects.
Stephen is a volunteer for Flying Start, BA’s charity partnership with Comic Relief. Earlier this year he helped organise a ball in Manchester which raised more than £6,000.
Gary said: “Thank you for all your support Stephen.
“British Airways has raised over £2 million for Comic Relief already – a tremendous achievement.”
The awards were handed out at the British Airways’ communities day, when the airline invited community and conservation organisations to its Waterside headquarters at Heathrow.
More than 40 charities showcased their work to staff.
BA community investment manager Mary Barry said: “Everyone here at British Airways is committed to the role we play in the community.
“We are extremely proud of our colleagues who received awards and commend their dedication.
“We’re delighted that our charity partners were able to join us and tell our staff more about the great work they do, and just why it’s so important that we continue to support them.”
