THE Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside was presented with a print of Sefton Church to mark his retirement.
Alan Waterworth Esq JP became Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside in 1993 and officially retired from the post on September 22, 2006.
A retirement celebration at Bootle Town Hall was attended by Mayors of Sefton, past and present.
Mr Waterworth was presented with a print of Sefton Church and a bottle of Champagne in recognition of his links and work with Sefton over the past 13 years. Flowers were also presented to Mrs Myriam Waterworth for her support.
Alan Waterworth was born and grew up in Liverpool. He served in the King's Regiment during National Service and then graduated in history from Trinity College, Cambridge.
During his career he became chief executive of Waterworth Bros, Fruit Merchants, and has been deputy chairman of Skelmersdale Development Corporation and a director of Northern Engineering.
Current Mayor of Sefton, Cllr Tommy Mann, said: "During his time as Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside, Alan has worked with many different Mayors from Sefton starting with Cllr Geoff Mann in 1993.
"It seems strange that he started his role with a Cllr Mann as Mayor of Sefton and now ends it with a different Cllr Mann as Mayor 13 years later.
"Speaking on behalf of all the past Mayors of Sefton since 1993 I would to like to thank Alan for all his efforts in his role as Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside and everything he has done for the borough.
"He will be sadly missed and I wish him a very happy retirement."
Dame Lorna Muirhead has been appointed the new Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside.
