AFTER 20 years of being taught at the church hall pupils at a Burscough school are to get a new classroom.
Alack of space at St John's CE School has forced the oldest pupils out of the main building and into a room at the neighbouring hall.
But noweducational directors have agreed to build a new classroom in time for the new school term in September.
Headteacher Karen Cartwright said: "It will provide a heart to the school, because at the moment we are not pulled together as one.
"It will makea significant difference to the learning of the children because, although we havemade good use of the hall, it has been a very limiting experience.
"At the moment, we go in and out of different buildings all day, and that is not ideal when the weather is bad. Also, we are inhibited because we can't put classes in together, which we would often like to do.
"Hopefully, this new classroom will benefit generations to come."
Mrs Cartwright was appointed headteacher 18 months agoand followedupattempts by her predecessors to fight for a new classroom.
After she lobbied Lancashire County Council, plans for the £748,000 building were approved. The development includes an extension to the school hall whichistoo small to house all pupils forassemblies and sports events.
"I came in determined to makeit happen. It's not something we thought would reasonably happen because we had so many knock-backs in the past.
"I've tried to involve the church and my school advisor to get everyone in agreement, and thankfully it looks as though it's going to go ahead."
